The Federal University of Arts, Science &
Technology enjoys the unique distinctions of being the first ever University in Pakistan which ultimately aims at using Urdu as the main language of
instruction and teaching.

The University started
functioning in November 2002 by taking over two federal government college's
namely federal Urdu science college, Karachi which were started / established
in 1949 by Baba-e-Urdu Dr. Abdul Haq whose mission was only to promote Urdu as
teaching and also for Urdu language as national language. He remains struggling
till his last moment of life.
The teaching in the
University (Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Abdul Haq Campus) is being conducted under five
faculties. Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Business
Administration, Commerce and Economics, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Law.
There are 17 Departments in Faculty of Arts and 12 Departments in Faculty of
Science, 4 Departments in Pharmacy, 3 departments in Business Administration and
1 departments in law and campuses have over 9000 students, the University is
now considered as one of the major University of Pakistan. The University has
over 400 highly qualified and experienced Faculty members. The University is a
body corporate and has power to affiliate educational institutions under laid
down terms and conditions. Many colleges and institutions are affiliated to the
University throughout the Pakistan.
The University is also
offering M.Phil/Ms Programs leading to Ph.D. degree in various disciplines. It
has awarded 13 Ph.D. and 37 M.Phil degrees in different disciplines of Science,
Arts, Business Administration, Economics and Engineering within a short span of
7 years.
